Barabanki has a very strong roadway transport infrastructure which is strengthen by national and state highways. The highways that run through the city are NH 28, NH 28 C, NH 56 A and UP SH 13. The highways and the roadways are maintained by the central, state and the local body.The NH 28 runs only a short distance in Barabanki in its southern end through the borders of Dharam Nagar locality sited on the bottom end of the city. The NH 28 links Barabanki with Naugarh, Siddharth Nagar, Basti, Bansi, Varanasi, Azamgarh and Nepal border regions within Uttar Pradesh. The NH 56 A starts its journey in Barabanki in the Dharam Nagar locality which is the only locality the highway runs from top to bottom starting from NH 28 which runs on the border of the locality. The highway links the city to its nearby localities of Chheda Nagar, Manera, Jafar Pur, Satrikh, Kamar Pur, Karkha, Sarai Budheri, Sahelia, Sikandar Pur, Jata, Gehendavar, Gaureyakala and many more. Currently the highway is not in a good condition due to lack of maintenance.
The state highway UP SH 13 commences its 228 km length journey from Barabanki exactly on NH 28 C in Siddharth Nagar locality and runs through Shivaji Puram, Palhari Village and exits through Palhari locality of Barabanki. The UP SH 13 has the route name Bahraich to Barabanki to Haidargarh to Fatehpur to Banda Marg road and it links the city to its neighbouring districts of Bahraich, Rae Bareli, Fatehpur and Banda. The Barabanki railway station locates in the town area Banki in Barabanki is a very important means of transport system in the city with a station code “BBK” and the station is an important railway junction in Uttar Pradesh as it is a commuter rail hub com an intercity railway station. As a commuter railway hub the station operates passenger trains to its outer suburb regions which lie close to Barabanki district and it is the central hub for Barabanki to Lucknow suburb railway. As an intercity railway station the Barabanki railway junction operates express and super-fast express trains covering major cities throughout India.The station operates under Northern railway zone & North Eastern railway zone and belongs to Lucknow to Charbagh northern railway division. Barabanki railway junction is owned by North Eastern railways under India Railways. The station is one of the busiest railway stations in North India as the station is sited on a highest population density zone and it is located on the Delhi to Gorakhpur railway broad gauge route. The station has three railway routes from its grounds like Lucknow junction to Barabanki junction to Gorakhpur route, Lucknow to Barabanki junction to Faizabad route and Barabanki junction to Barabanki sugar mill to Barabanki FCI route.
The station was established in the year 1872 April 1st by the British East India company and was rebuilt in the year 1940s. The station was electrified in the year 2002- 2003 and from 2010 till 2011. The station was electrified under two phases. In Phase one 2002 to 2003 the tracks from Barabanki station till Safedabad station was electrified and also Barabanki railway yard tracks was electrified. In Phase two 2010 to 2011 the 30 km railway tracks connecting Barabanki junction to Burhwal junction got electrified.
It was used as an important railway junction during British rule in India and was called by different names in different time intervals like Indian Branch Railway Company from 1896 till 1953, Cawnpore to Burhwal Railway from 1896 till 1943 and Cawnpore to Barabanki Railway from 1943 till 1953.
The Barabanki railway station has about 4 platforms with 10 railway tracks and it has a double electrified BG railway track.
The station is elevated at a height of 124 km above sea level and it got its coordinates at 26.9342° North latitude and 81.1793° East longitude. Nearly 125 trains halt daily in Barabanki railway junction and all types of trains halt like nearly 70 express trains, passenger trains, MEMU – Mainline Electric Multiple Unit trains and super-fast trains. The popular trains stop by Barabanki railway junction are Sabarmati express, Avadh express, Doon express, Kolkata – Jammu Tawi express, Vaishali SF express, Faizabad to Delhi express and many more. The station is used by nearly 6000 people daily and the count increases during special occasions. Good parking facilities are provided in the station and the station is very close to bus station, taxi stand and Auto stand to facilitate the travellers.
The station operates trains to many part of Uttar Pradesh like Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Faizabad, Gonda, Azamgarh, Bareilly, Mathura, Manduadih and many major cities throughout India like Kolkata, Bandra, Muzaffarpur, Chhindwara, Ahmadabad, Darbhanga, Ajmer, Jalpaiguri, Howrah, Kotdwara, Lokmanyatilak, Bangalore, Secunderabad, Delhi, Barauni, Eranakulam, Trivandrum, Hisar, Gwalior, Jaynagar, Amritsar, Kathgodam, Chhapra, Joghpur, Dehradun, Jammu Tawi, Katihar, Firozpur, Dhanbad, Guwahati, Lalgari, Jodhpur, Malda Town, Yasvantpur, Okha & many more. The station operates no direct trains to Allahabad so the travellers have to catch Lucknow train to travel Allahabad.
