Barabanki the district capital of Barabanki district belongs to Uttar Pradesh state. The city is located at a distance of 28 km away from the state capital Lucknow and 590 km away from the national capital Delhi. People of all religions and communities reside in the district Headquarters out of which Muslims forms the majority of population in the city followed by Hindus. Barabanki covers a total area of 2202 sq km that is 850 sq km. The city is elevated at a height of 125 km above sea level which is 410 feet and has its coordinates at 26.92° North latitude and 81.2° East longitude. The city is surrounded by Banki Tehsil in the west, Harakh Tehsil in the South, Dewa Tehsil in the North and Masauli Tehsil in the East. Barabanki city is sited on the border of its district Barabanki which makes the city much closer to its neighbouring district of Lucknow towards its west.

The city homes numerous small water bodies like Danokhar Talab, Satokhar Talab and many small ponds in its grounds in its various localities. River Jamuriha flows through the city. River Ghaghara also flows close to the city. Summers are hot and long while the winters are cool and pleasant in Barabanki.
